Installation Instructions

This document provides installation instructions for Enterprise Vault 9.0.4 Cumulative Hotfix 5. The ReadMeFirst file, which is available with the cumulative hotfix at http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH205732, gives details of the issues that have been fixed.

Cumulative Hotfix 5 includes fixes included in earlier cumulative hotfixes. You must install all fixes that are applicable to your Enterprise Vault environment to ensure that the cumulative hotfix is deployed correctly. The only exception is the Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-In which can be installed separately as required.

Note: When you download the cumulative hotfix .zip files using Internet Explorer, Windows may block them. All the files extracted from the .zip files will also be marked as blocked. If you use the files without unblocking them users may receive the message "The Enterprise Vault service is not available". To avoid this issue, unblock the .zip files before you extract the files. Enterprise Vault server

Installation instructions

To install this hotfix:

  1. Ensure that none of the following is running:
  2. Stop IIS on the Enterprise Vault server using the following command:
    iisreset /stop
  3. Take backup copies of the Enterprise Vault Directory database and vault store databases.
  4. Run the 9.0.4_CHF5_Update_DirectoryDB.sql file against the Directory database.
  5. Run the 9.0.4_CHF5_Update_VaultStoreDB.sql file against each vault store database.
  6. Take backup copies of the files listed in the Files updated section. These files are located in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault), apart from the following files:
  7. Replace the original files with the files from the hotfix media.
  8. Domino server archiving only: On the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server, install the Enterprise Vault extensions for Lotus Notes and DWA clients. For instructions, see the Setting up Domino Server Archiving guide that is located in the Documentation subfolder of the Enterprise Vault installation folder.
  9. Start IIS on the Enterprise Vault server using the following command:
    iisreset /start
  10. Start the Enterprise Vault services.
    If the Enterprise Vault server is part of a cluster, use the cluster administration tools to start the Enterprise Vault services.

To uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Ensure that none of the following is running:
  2. Stop IIS on the Enterprise Vault server using the following command:
    iisreset /stop
  3. Take backup copies of the Enterprise Vault Directory database and vault store databases.
  4. Run the 9.0.4_CHF5_Revert_DirectoryDB.sql file against the Directory database.
  5. Run the 9.0.4_CHF5_Revert_VaultStoreDB.sql file against each vault store database.
  6. Replace the hotfix version of the files with the original files from the backup taken during the installation.
  7. Domino server archiving only: On the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server, install the Enterprise Vault extensions for Lotus Notes and DWA clients. Installation instructions

To install this hotfix, do the following on each server on which the FSA Agent is installed:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault File Placeholder service.
  2. When the Enterprise Vault File Placeholder service has stopped, take a backup copy of the file EvPlaceholderService.exe located in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault).
  3. Replace the original EvPlaceholderService.exe file with the file from the hotfix media.
  4. Open a command prompt window and run the following command as administrator:

    fltmc unload evfilter

  5. When the command has completed, take a backup copy of the file evmf.sys located in the Windows drivers folder (for example, C:\Windows\System32\drivers).
  6. Replace the original evmf.sys file in the drivers folder with the appropriate version of evmf.sys from the hotfix media.

  7. In the command prompt window, run the following command as administrator:

    fltmc load evfilter

  8. Start the Enterprise Vault File Placeholder service.

To uninstall this hotfix, do the following on each server on which the FSA Agent is installed:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault File Placeholder service.
  2. When the File Placeholder service has stopped, replace the EvPlaceholderService.exe file in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault) with the file from the backup taken during the installation.
  3. Open a command prompt window and run the following command as administrator:

    fltmc unload evfilter

  4. When the command has completed, replace the evmf.sys file in the Windows drivers folder (for example, C:\Windows\System32\drivers) with the file from the backup taken during the installation.
  5. In the command prompt window, run the following command as administrator:

    fltmc load evfilter

  6. Start the Enterprise Vault File Placeholder service.

SharePoint server archiving

This hotfix updates the following files to build 9.0.4.1190:

Installation instructions

To install this hotfix:

  1. Stop running any instances of EVSPShortcutManager.exe.
  2. Stop the Enterprise Vault Admin service on the SharePoint server.
  3. Take a backup copy of the files listed in the Files updated section, located in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault) on the SharePoint server.
  4. Replace the original files with the files from the hotfix media.
  5. Locate the KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll files in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) located in the assembly folder (for example, C:\Windows\assembly).
  6. Right-click KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and select Uninstall.
  7. Right-click KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll and select Uninstall.
  8. Start a command prompt and navigate to the Enterprise Vault installation folder on the SharePoint Server.
  9. Install KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll using the following commands:

    gacutil.exe -i KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll

    gacutil.exe -i KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll

  10. Run the SharePointFeatureSetup tool with the command line:

    SharePointFeatureSetup.exe /install /httpmodule

  11. Restart IIS on the SharePoint server.
  12. Start the Enterprise Vault Admin service on the SharePoint server.

To uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Stop running any instances of EVSPShortcutManager.exe.
  2. Stop the Enterprise Vault Admin service on the SharePoint server.
  3. Replace the hotfix version of the files with the original files from the backup taken during the installation.
  4. Locate the KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll files in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) located in the assembly folder (for example, C:\Windows\assembly) on the SharePoint server.
  5. Right-click KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and select Uninstall.
  6. Right-click KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll and select Uninstall.
  7. Locate gacutil.exe in the Enterprise Vault installation folder on the SharePoint server.
  8. Install KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll and KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll using the following commands:

    gacutil.exe -i KVS.EnterpriseVault.HttpModule.dll

    gacutil.exe -i KVS.EnterpriseVault.SharePointComponentsCommon.dll

  9. Restart IIS on the SharePoint server.
  10. Navigate to the physical path for the extended site's virtual directory and replace web.config with the original version that was backed up by the SharePointFeatureSetup tool, for example, web_yyyy_mm_dd_hh_mm_ss.bak. This is to uninstall the Enterprise Vault HttpModule from extended sites.
  11. Start the Enterprise Vault Admin service on the SharePoint server.

Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-In

This hotfix updates the following files to build 9.0.4.1189:

Installation instructions

To install this hotfix, deploy the MSI kit to desktop computers using your normal software distribution application.

Alternatively, you can allow users to install an Outlook Add-In themselves. The users must have local administrator permissions to install the Outlook Add-In. In some cases the users can launch the MSI directly, but for some users you also need to provide a setup.exe file. The setup.exe file is included in this hotfix with the associated MSI file.

To install this hotfix:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  2. Take backup copies of the files that are listed in the Files updated section, located in the Compliance Accelerator installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault Business Accelerator).
  3. Replace these files with the files from the hotfix media.
  4. Take a backup copy of the Compliance Accelerator configuration database and customer databases.
  5. Run the Install_CACustomer.sql file against each Compliance Accelerator customer database.
  6. Start the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  7. On the Enterprise Vault server, restart the Exchange Journaling task and Domino Journaling task.

To uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  2. Replace the hotfix versions of the files that are listed in the Files updated section with the original files from the backup taken during the installation.
  3. Run the Uninstall_CACustomer.sql file against each Compliance Accelerator customer database.
  4. Start the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  5. On the Enterprise Vault server, restart the Exchange Journaling task and Domino Journaling task.

Discovery Accelerator server

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  2. Take backup copies of the files that are listed in the Files updated section. Except for the EVContentManagementAPI.dll file, all the files are in the Discovery Accelerator installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault Business Accelerator). The EVContentManagementAPI.dll file is in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault).
  3. Replace these files with the files from the hotfix media.
  4. Take a backup copy of the Discovery Accelerator configuration database and customer databases.
  5. Run the Install_DAConfig.sql file against the configuration database.
  6. Run the Install_DACustomer.sql file against each customer database.
  7. Start the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.

To uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.
  2. Replace the hotfix versions of the files that are listed in the Files updated section with the original files from the backup taken during the installation.
  3. Run the Uninstall_DAConfig.sql file against the configuration database.
  4. Run the Uninstall_DACustomer.sql file against each customer database.
  5. Start the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager service.

Discovery Accelerator client

  1. Close the Discovery Accelerator client.
  2. Take a backup copy of the file AcceleratorClient.exe, which is in the Discovery Accelerator Client installation folder (for example, C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator\Client).
  3. Replace the AcceleratorClient.exe file with the file from the hotfix media.

To uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Close the Discovery Accelerator client.
  2. Replace the hotfix version of the AcceleratorClient.exe file with the original file from the backup taken during the installation.
